Self-Hosting & Data Sovereignty

Take back control of your IT.

Self-hosted services instead of third-party systems: GDPR-compliant, cost-efficient and independent of tech giants – operated where you keep control.

Why self-hosting

Five commitments that make the difference.

  • Privacy by design: data protection is part of the architecture, not a setting added later.

  • Self-hosted solutions for genuine data sovereignty.

  • A complete IoT stack from LoRaWAN sensors to cloud APIs.

  • Automation first – with infrastructure as code and CI/CD.

  • Based in Germany: Chemnitz, Leipzig and Dresden, remote across the country.

Starting point and result

From third-party systems to your own IT.

Cloud services are convenient. The question is who owns the data they produce.

Without self-hosting

A typical starting point in IT landscapes that have grown over time:

  • Data held by third parties

Mail, files and customer data sit with providers whose server location and further processing you do not control.

  • Dependencies

Prices, features and notice periods change without your involvement; leaving is expensive.

  • Opaque access

Who reads, processes or passes on data often cannot be traced in detail.

With self-hosting

Services on your own or dedicated infrastructure – with clear responsibility:

  • Data control

Your data sits where you decide – on servers in your own building or in an environment of your choice.

  • Predictable cost

Recurring subscription fees become operating and hardware costs that you control yourself.

  • Traceability

Access, backups and updates follow your rules and are documented.

If self-hosting is too much for you, TNI also runs and maintains your infrastructure for you. Talk to us

What changes

Control, cost, compliance.

Self-hosted services change three things at once.

  • Control

You decide which services run, where the data sits and who can access it.

  • Cost

Recurring subscriptions become predictable operating costs without a cloud markup.

  • Compliance

Data held in Germany, GDPR-compliant processing and traceable access.

Scope

What we run for you.

We build and operate the services that otherwise run as third-party systems – individually or as a bundle.

  • Servers & virtualisation

Building and operating servers and virtualisation platforms, among others based on Proxmox.

  • Network & firewall

Network, VLANs and firewall, among others with OPNsense and TP-Link components.

  • Data & files

File storage, backups and databases in your own building instead of someone else's.

  • Business applications

ERP and line-of-business applications, among others based on Odoo.

  • Monitoring & operations

Monitoring, updates and backup jobs, so that operations do not become a permanent chore.

  • IoT to cloud API

LoRaWAN sensors, radio network and dashboards through to the connected cloud API.

Our partners

Technologies from our partners carry the infrastructure we build and operate.

How we work

Five steps to your own infrastructure.

We migrate service by service – with a clear way back and without interrupting live operations.

  1. 01

    Inventory

Which services run where, what data is produced and which dependencies exist.

  2. 02

    Selection

We prioritise by benefit, effort and risk and propose which services are worth doing first.

  3. 03

    Pilot

One service is self-hosted and tested in parallel operation, without interrupting live operations.

  4. 04

    Migration

Moving data and access with a clear way back; backup and contingency plan included.

  5. 05

    Operations

Updates, monitoring and backups run as recurring operations – automated wherever possible.

Honestly

What self-hosting costs.

Self-hosting is not a free ride. These points are part of the honest picture.

  • Operating effort

Servers need updates, backups and monitoring. We take that on – or hand it over to your team, documented.

  • Lead time

Migration and testing take time; a service rarely runs fully in-house from one day to the next.

  • Hardware or a dedicated environment

It does not work entirely without infrastructure. Depending on the goal a dedicated machine is enough, or you need a server on site.

  • Not every service is worth it

Some tools make more sense as a third-party system. We will say so if self-hosting offers you no advantage.

Fit

Who it suits – and who it does not.

A good fit if …

  • You process personal or confidential data and want to control where it is held.
  • You want predictable costs instead of growing subscriptions.
  • You want to stay independent of individual providers in the long run.
  • You operate or want to build your own or dedicated infrastructure.

Less of a fit if …

  • You want to operate as little of your own infrastructure as possible.
  • Your requirements are fully covered by a single standard service.
  • You need a solution for just a few weeks at short notice.

Common questions

Answered briefly.

Is TNI's self-hosting GDPR-compliant?

We design the services so that processing meets GDPR requirements and keep data largely in Germany. That does not replace a legal assessment of your individual case.

Do we need our own servers for this?

Not necessarily. Depending on the service, a dedicated machine or a virtual environment is enough; for larger scenarios a server on site is worth it.

Which technologies does TNI use?

Among others Odoo, Proxmox, OPNsense and TP-Link components – all partners we work with. Their products carry the infrastructure we build and operate for our clients.

What happens if a service fails?

Backups, monitoring and a documented contingency plan are part of operations; for critical services we plan recovery in advance.

Do you also take on ongoing operations?

Yes. We operate the services fully or hand them over to your team, documented – depending on how much control you want to take on yourself.

We look at your services and tell you what is worth self-hosting first.
